Music Video Pitch Reflection

Music Video Pitch
When doing my Music video pitch, you could say that the nerves got the best of me, hence the fact i stuttered and made silly grammar errors when doing it, this also brings me to my next point. I didn't refer back to any terminology such as Andrew Goodwin or his ideas, Perhaps if i had done this, I could of been a bit more descriptive of what i was talking about. Also with this i could of bonded it along side my own idea of my music video.

One thing i was pleased about, was that i knew exactly what i wanted my idea to look like, i was also happy that i wasn't focused on just one point in the room, and i gave everyone eye contact when speaking. i was also pleased about giving everyone hand gestures of what i was talking about.

The Improvements that the audience had set me was to think about time and cost of the locations that i wanted to go to. And i also noticed that people had difficulties understanding what i was talking about so i am thinking of possibly changing thew story slightly so it makes it more original so its easier to understand.

Production Log Week 1

This week, I was unable to to do any work, I was held back with family issues, and was unable to attend the group rationale with my partner TJ, but with time closing in, TJ had to do this on his own, but we managed to have a meeting together whilst i was away to talk about what music video idea we wanted to chose, after this TJ went away and started on the main script which he is currently working on.
I should hopefully be able to return to work next week, where me and TJ can finish our completed Music video script and make a start on the paper work so we can start filming as soon as possible.

Contact emails with artists

Hi Jackie Boyz I recently heard your song “Topless” on Unsigned.com and I would like to say that I think it’s really good and balanced out. I am currently studying, Media Production and I have to make a music video, after listening to your song I think it would be great to use in my music video, once the video is made it will be uploaded to YouTube and will not be made for a profitable reason.
I would be very appreciated for you to email me back in agreement in using your song, as I am short for time it would be great for you to reply back to me as soon as possible along side the lyrics of the song.
Yours sincerely,

Kaval Singh

Weekly production log 4-

What have you contributed to this week? In this week we finished the risk assessments, we had to make sure this was as detailed as possible, reason being, is that we don’t know what the weather is going to be like on that day, and being in Britain I could change at any time.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas for the project? Without doing risk assessments, we will not be prepared on what to face when we film in places such as central London; there were many things such as travel we have to be prepared for the worst, and if we do come across any issues, now we planned them, we know what to do.

Where there any problems? When you film you experience all sorts of problems, so we had to tackle a few tricky situations, such as safety, and this was one of the key elements of doing this, because being in a big place like central London, we would have to think of alternatives. And not being very familiar with parts of London where we are going to film, and having equipment like a tripod and a digital camera, it is not hard for us to be mugged, so we had to think of ways in which we can protect the equipment as well as ourselves. What are the plans for the following week?

In the following week we want to finish off the rest of the paper work and begin filming, the extra paper works, involves location Reccies, where me and my partner will create a presentation on Microsoft PowerPoint, in this presentation we will say each location and analyse them, where we will say why we chose them, and how they work well without music video.

Weekly production log 9

What have you contributed to this week?

In this week we were set to complete an individual task, the task was then split into two. The first being  a research log, this is where we went through different websites, and tried to find out what the meanings of each law means, and then evaluate the website, stating whether it was valuable or pretty much useless of not. The second half was to write up on, the Codes or practice & regulation, what this was, is the information we found from the research logs, we had to write up what each individual law means, for example the 9pm watershed where only, certain films/shows can be shown after 9pm because they have graphical contents within them.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas for the project?

This fits in, because it makes us look back a our own music videos, and evaluate them ourselves to see if they would be allowed to be shown before 9pm, or if the cant due to contents that evaluates this idea.

Where there any problems?

There wasn’t many issues with this, however, with some websites, I found very unnecessary due to them either being too complex, and going into things that were not even related to what I was trying to find out, or they were too narrowly detailed, where what I was researching, could have been given to me, without even searching it up.

What are the plans for the following week?

This has been the last week where I work on this task, and should move onto a new unit next week.

Weekly production log 8

What have you contributed to this week? This week me and my partner TJ managed to complete our music video to best possible extent, we also managed to start on the paper work, this included research logs, where we find out things about the copyright law and note down what we learnt and how useful the source was, sort of like a bibliography.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas for the project? With the deadline extension, it doesn’t really affect anything and we managed to finish the music video on time, and start the evaluation process of the music video.

Where there any problems? There were no issues this week and everything ran smoothly. What are the plans for the following week? For the following week we plan to carry on our paper work and get everything completed.

Weekly production log 7

What have you contributed to this week? In this week we had a deadline for our music video, although it wasn’t a deadline for the final music video, but we needed to have something that looked good and ran by what we were aiming to create. We meet the deadline, and from strict criticism we were happy with our performance. With one or two things that could have been done better we are happy with what we done.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas for the project? With some other groups within our class, they are slightly behind, and may find it hard to meet the deadline, and with an extension we can focus on the filming that needed to be corrected and spend more time on the editing, this doesn’t really effect the production schedule, it just means that our final date can be extended until mid-week next week.

Where there any problems? As I said before from the criticism that we received, we only faced one issue which was the filming, and luckily it was within the area so we didn’t have to face any difficulties so we managed, to film and fix that issue. What are the plans for the following week? For the following week me just want to fix up on the small errors, and give the music video a final polish with the editing to make sure everything was fine and looked good from the human eye, we have planned to meet the deadline before the actual day, and with TJ having the editing software we can do this after editing time and get things done to the best extent and as fast as possible.

Weekly production log 6

What have you contributed to this week? In this week me and my partner managed to get ahead of task, and film all of Taylor’s shots, and complete all of the park shots, Taylor’s shots were something we had planned to do in the following week, but with her group having a couple of setbacks, she had a free day, so we used our quick thinking and initiative and arranged for her to come and do those shots. So with us getting this done, we had more time to do things that would help us improve our actual music video.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas for the project? So with the new schedule, me and my partner have now moved 3 days ahead of schedule, thanks to Taylor, we now have more time to do more efficient things, like work on editing and to see if our camera angles could be improved. Where there any problems?

With the weather being very kind to, this also caused us some lighting issues, but as the day progressed the sun came back out and gave us the lighting that was needed, and we got the work done, but this also allowed us to have time to film the house shots, where lighting could be adjusted by ourselves, we managed to get these shots done with no problems.

What are the plans for the following week? For the following week myself and my partner should start editing, and with TJ, my partner having Final Cut on his iMac at home we are able to edit whenever we need to, but with the current filming we already have and should edit it, to double check on any mistakes or missing shots, but we plan to finish editing by next Friday and have all the editing done to schedule.

Weekly production log 5

What have you contributed to this week? In this week, me and my partner managed to finish all of our paper work, and have got the most hardest shots completed, our paper work was a major part of the planning side of our music video, planning things like location Reccies and job roles, was something that needed to be done in full detail, because when we filmed, and for example using London as an example, if we didn’t plan anything in advance we would of end up going back for a second time, and sticking to the budget, we knew that traveling cost us most of our expenditure We also managed to get our cast and crew done in full detail, because of our actress, Taylor, is also producing a music video and we have understand that she has to prioritise her music video as well, so we arranged dates with her where we can complete all of our filming. So after doing all of this we managed to get a date where us and Taylor will be able to film, and on the Friday we went to the south bank and got the establishing shots for the opening sequence for the music video.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas for the project? All the things, such as the paper work we completed this week, play a huge part in the planning of the music video, hence the reason why we had to get it done in full detail. So when we filmed on the south bank we knew exactly what we had to do, and with it being a tourist attraction we had to make sure there were no complications with people.

Where there any problems? We only faced one problem, and this was mainly based on people, and like I said the south bank being full of loads of people, which was expected, we had to get our filming done on time, and very fast, for example when we had to do a shopping spree shot on bond street, we had to wait 10 minutes for the path to be free so we could film.

What are the plans for the following week? The following weeks plans are pretty much simple, the London shots we got this week, will be uploaded and edited to see if we need to go back and see if any improvements are needed, but as far as me and my partner have planned, we aim to get the local area and park shots completed within the start of the week and upload and edit them by the end of the week.

Call Sheet 2

Permission For Filming

For our Music video, for shot 82-86 we wanted to film on Bond Street, Louis Vuitton  and we sent them an email regarding us filming outside their shop. here is the email we sent.
we then got a reply saying that we would have to ask the Stores Manager if we are allowed to film in and around the shop.
What we are thinking is that when we go to the actual shop to film we would be able to ask him, and looking at the Westminster city counsel website, we are allowed to film as long,as we do not publish it for production reasons.

Schedule for Music Video

Job Roles

Job roles Roles •Camera man •Actor/actress •Director/producer Editor For our music video me and my partner are aiming to share most of the responsibilities, for example the director’s job we are going to share, the reason for this is due to the fact we know exactly what we are looking for and we both want the final product to be the best that we can both make it. Our camera man will be Kaval because I have had previous experiences with working with him. He has good experience with cameras and understands what I want the shot to look like and how it will be laid out. Kaval is a very responsible Camera Man and gets the work done when told to which allows us to manage time and get shots done with ease. The camera man’s role is very important as he has to perfect the shot and make the outcome look like a prefect replica of what we put up on the Shooting Script. The Actor will be Thajeethan. As a group they have chosen me because I have had past experiences in acting in front of cameras. I am not camera shy so this allows us to look as natural as possible. With past experience from media I have learned a lot of skills and have most roles of shooting a Music Video and Trailer. These skills I have learnt will allow me to embed it within the Music Video. This allows the Music Video to be more professional and less amateur. The director will be Thajeethan as well because he is very good with creating and planning out how the final product would look like. Also we have chosen him as a Director because he has previous experiences and has directed a movie trailer before. Along with that he will also be the editor because he also has had previous experiences and he does Youtube Videos where he edits as well. So there is an upside to this along with all the other benefits he has.

Production blog : week 3

What have you contributed to this week?

In this week me and my partner finished our shooting script and began doing, writing up risk assessments and our call sheets, we managed to complete the risk assessments, it was simple as there went many risks at the first couple places we were going to film at. We focused on things such as, the weather and people, we chose this because they seemed like the most important things and this is something we have to keep an eye on all the time.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

The reason why this fits in, because without doing it, we may come across with certain issues with filming that may cost us money or set us back a long way so it’s important that we get this done to the most detailed level.

Were there any problems?

There were some problems; most of them were simply thinking of things that would affect our filming , such as the weather and people. How we managed to solve them, was to look back at our shooting script and attempt to visualise each shot, and work out the risks in each shot.

What are the plans for the following week?

In the following week, me and my partner have agreed to finish all the important paper work so that we can start filming by this Wednesday, the paper works consists of the final weekly production, where we will say exactly what needs filming on each particular day, and the others is to make sure we have everything secured when we actually film.

Production Log: Week two

What have you contributed to this week?

In this week me and my partner started our shooting script, the aim of creating a shooting script, is to give ourselves a really good hindsight of what we want our music video to be. To make our filming a lot easier, we have involved the smallest detail so that each individual scene comes out perfect from the human eye. As we wanted advice from a more professional point of view, we decided it would be better for our teacher  to give us feedback every twenty or so shots, so that our script made sense and worked correctly. We have a set deadline for the final shooting scrip which is on Wednesday the 5th of February. So far myself and my partner have managed to complete 68 shots that are up to a very high standards.

How does this fit in with the production schedule/job roles/overall ideas of the project?

As I said before the importance of a shooting script is very high when producing something like a music video, as it would save us time during production, thinking about shot types, props and dialogue.

Were there any problems?

As the official idea was my partners, I let him take on the more detailed parts of the work, reason being he knew exactly what his music video would look like. However this lead to a problem where my understanding of certain shots was not to good. and this backtracked us slightly, but in our future there would be no problems now that we both are on the same page and understand exactly what we have to get done.

What are the plans for the following week?

Our plans for the following week, is to get our shooting script finished at a very detailed standards, and reach a minimum of a 120 shots.

Group Rational

So the group rationale was something basic and all we done was explain in the video each of our ideas and go through why we chose the final idea. As you can see in the video we chose TJ's idea, the reason for this, is because its different and unusual. I also likes the fact that TJ had a really good idea of what he wanted his final product to look like.
